The Young Eagles program will again offer free flights to kids age 8-17, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017. This date is to make-up for the cancellation on June 10 due to high winds and heat.
Flights will be available for those who previously registered, but didn't get to fly, and for those who could not attend the original June 10 event. See original event info below for more details.
Through the Young Eagles program, dreams take flight -- literally.
On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the Young Eagles youth aviation education program will be offered at the Iowa City Municipal Airport, giving young people who have an interest in aviation an opportunity to take to the skies with a local pilot. The program is available to youth between the ages of 8 and 17. They must be accompanied to the airport by a parent or guardian.
The Young Eagles program will pair youth with pilots who are volunteer members of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 33 for a 15- to 20-minute flight around the Iowa City area. Afterwards, participants will have an opportunity to meet other pilots and airport staff to learn more about planes, safety, and the possibilities that exist in the world of aviation.
Young people interested in participating will be required to register inside the Iowa City Municipal Airport Terminal Building, beginning at 9 a.m. Registration will end at 11:30 a.m. Flights will continue until everyone who has registered prior to the deadline has received their ride. No fees will be charged for the flight.
Each participant will receive a certificate naming them an official "Young Eagle," and have their names entered into the "World's Largest Logbook" on display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, WI and posted online at www.youngeagles.org. Since Young Eagles was launched in 1992, nearly two million young people have had the opportunity to fly with the help of EAA's network of volunteer pilots and ground volunteers.
